CSA research assistant Simeon Smeele starts his PhD at the Max Planck Institute in Germany

We are pleased to announce Simeon Smeele was awarded with a Ph.D. Student position at the Max Planck Institute for Animal Behavior in Radolfzell, Germany and the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany. Simeon is an alumna from our Conservation Class 2018 and has been working as a research assistant for the Species360 Conservation Science Alliance (CSA) since the 1st of April 2019 analyzing and visualizing data on survival and fertility in mammals and birds. From today, he will start his Ph.D. thesis with monk parakeets – an invasive parrot species in Europe – as a model to understand the interplay between social dynamics, demography, and communication.

Simeon will continue to collaborate with the CSA as part of the “Sex-specific Differences in Survival Working Group” working on sex-differences in parrots.
